Trilogy Projects is Looking to the Past to Build a Better Future
06/12/2024
They say that good things come in threes, and that’s definitely true for Trilogy Projects. Named after the trio of founding partners, the award-winning design and construction firm is also notable for the three-stage process that ensures every project is a success from concept to completion.
Formed eight years ago, Trilogy specialises in high-end kitchens and bathrooms, especially in older homes. In recent years the team has also expanded to internal renovations and extensions. And one of the company’s major strengths is that each founder brings a different skill set to the table. Matt Severino is a Licensed Builder who looks after clients during the initial consultation and design phase. After that, he hands over to specialist wall and floor tiler Michael Tamlin and Construction Manager Pete Halikias, who has two decades of experience in the industry.
“The process begins with our design team doing a detailed site measure of the home and getting a picture of how the client currently lives and what they're trying to achieve with the new layout,” explains Matt. Once they have developed a plan and budget, Stage Two includes detailed 3D modelling and material selection, as well as engaging engineers, surveyors and the council to ensure the project is fully designed, documented and approved. Only then are they ready to move to the final stage of construction.
“And because it’s very important to keep a smile on the client's face right through to handover, we're really big on scheduling our projects from day dot right to completion” says Pete. “That means I delve right into the project to get a full understanding of every aspect so I can write an in-depth scope and a schedule to suit that scope… And if anything changes along the way, the clients are kept up to date with a weekly schedule so they can feel like they are a part of the process.”
Another thing that sets Trilogy apart from most competitors is the inhouse deconstruct team, something that’s especially important in Adelaide’s eastern suburbs. “A lot of our work comes from areas like Maylands, Trinity Gardens and Norwood where there are plenty of old character homes in need of some love,” says Matt. “Working on 100-year-old homes requires a special skill set and approach. Sometimes we’re opening up walls that were built 100 years ago and touched a couple of times along the way, and we need to do justice to the existing build while also keeping up with today’s standards and tying the two together.”
The team’s obsessive attention to detail has led to plenty of recognition, including the national 2023 Master Builders Award for Excellence in Renovation & Addition Up To $400,000, and four nominations at the 2024 awards. But despite increasing interest from clients, Trilogy has stayed boutique by design. The team works on a maximum of 15 properties a year so that everyone involved can be across all the details. “That lets us tailor the process to each client,” explains Matt. “And it means that each client has a director of the business with them from that first phone call all the way through to the finished product.”
