Exploring NPSP's best kept secrets with the Governor of SA
21/07/2025
On Wednesday 9 July, we welcomed Her Excellency the Hon Frances Adamson AC, Governor of South Australia, and her husband Mr Rod Bunten for a bespoke tour of the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters.
Hosted by Mayor Robert Bria and Jane Reilly OAM (Ambassador of the Food Secrets initiative), and joined by Mario Barone, Chief Executive Officer, and Allison Kane, Manager Strategic Communications & Advocacy, the tour was tailored to showcase innovation, champion local business and celebrate local and cultural heritage.
During the tour, the Governor and Mr Bunten met local food and beverage manufacturers (that feature on the Food Secrets tours and the Eastside Wine & Ale Trail) at 1645 Coffee Roasters, Quinzi's Confectionery and Amadio Wines, gaining insights into these successful family-run businesses.
Each business warmly welcomed Her Excellency and showcased what it means to run a business in the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters.
The tour also presented a unique opportunity to highlight some of the Council's most prolific and impactful projects that incorporate contemporary, innovative and sustainable approaches to deliver real benefits for the community.
A visit to the multi award-winning Felixstow Reserve provided the opportunity to explore the site's cultural significance and the meaning behind the cultural markers designed and created by Kaurna/Ngarrindjeri landscape architect and artist Paul Munaitya Herzich. Together with Paul, the Council’s General Manager, Infrastructure & Major Projects Jared Barnes provided insight into the collaborative approach to the project to instil a strong connection with Country and the sustainable outcomes and benefits of the reserve’s wetlands.
The Governor and Mr Bunten were then provided with a preview of construction progress at Payneham Memorial Swimming Centre where they heard about the scale of the development, the construction program and the economic and community impact this state-of-the-art centre is already creating from the Council's Project Manager Michael Moshos.
The day culminated in a celebratory afternoon tea with more than 50 Council Volunteers at St Peters Banquet Hall in recognition of their commitment and compassion that ensures the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters is a great place to live.
We extend our deepest gratitude to Her Excellency and Mr Bunten, who braved the persistent wind and rain, for joining us and to Volunteer bus driver Paul Wilson who ensured the Governor and Mr Bunten arrived on time to every location.
