Big Ideas, Shared Locally Thanks to Raising the Bar Adelaide 2025
23/09/2025
For one night only, local hotels across the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters were once again transformed into vibrant classrooms as Raising the Bar Adelaide took over the City on Tuesday 5 August 2025.
Now in its eighth year, this much-loved annual event once again delivered 20 talks across 10 venues, sparking conversations, challenging ideas and connecting people over knowledge in an unexpected setting.
Originating in New York, the Raising the Bar concept continues to spread to major cities across the world.
In South Australia, it is unique to the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters, which holds the exclusive licence to host the event.
This exclusivity has positioned the City as a leader in innovative community engagement, lifelong learning and cultural enrichment.
Raising the Bar Adelaide has grown into a flagship event on the Council’s calendar, with audiences returning year after year.
Nearly half of this year’s attendees had enjoyed events in previous years, demonstrating the strong loyalty and enthusiasm Raising the Bar continues to generate.
Raising the Bar doesn’t just deliver engaging ideas — it also drives foot traffic, new audiences and stronger community connections for local businesses.
Venues reported increases in patronage and sales, particularly for a usually quiet Tuesday night.
For many, the event brought in customers who were visiting for the first time or reconnecting after years away.
As Jacqui, Owner of The Rising Sun Inn, put it, “This event is a great drawcard for not only our regular patrons, but we notice the large number of new people that haven’t been before or not for a long time”.
“It refreshes their memory and increases attendance, as well as a financial benefit with people buying food and drinks.”
Catherine from Ferg’s Stepney echoed the sentiment.
“It is great for us to be able to open up for a great community event and have more people experience Ferg’s!”
Speakers also praised the event for its professionalism, unique format and engaged audiences.
“Thank you for the opportunity to speak at Raising the Bar. I found it extremely professionally run and overall, just a wonderful event to be part of,” says Trish Evelyn.
Elle Holiday adding, “I had a great time — my audience was fun, engaged, and full of great energy. Thank you for having me as part of Raising the Bar. I really enjoyed being involved, and the focus on making higher education accessible is something I’m fully behind”.
The core objective of Raising the Bar Adelaide lies in its ability to bring people together.
Instead of routine gatherings or small talk, attendees connect through meaningful ideas and thought-provoking discussions in relaxed, social venues.
Conversations often continue long after the talks end, deepening connections and building a stronger sense of community.
From exploring resilience and breaking bad habits, to comedy, law, renewable energy and health, Raising the Bar Adelaide 2025 once again proved that learning can be lively, engaging and social.
With another successful year complete, the event has further cemented itself as one of the City’s most unique and valued cultural experiences — a night where ideas flow as freely as the conversation.
