Spreading Christmas joy to children in need, one book at a time

25/11/2025

For many of us, Christmas morning is filled with laughter, excitement and the joy of unwrapping gifts.

But for some South Australian children, the festive season can be a time of uncertainty.

The Backpacks 4 SA Kids Christmas Program was born from a heartfelt moment in 2013, when a foster carer, already caring for three children, welcomed a fourth into her home on Christmas Eve.

Without warning, she scrambled to find something special so that child could share in the magic of Christmas morning.

It’s moments like this that remind us how powerful a simple gift can be.

A thoughtfully wrapped present can light up a child’s face and bring comfort to families facing some of their toughest days.

We are once again proudly supporting Backpacks 4 SA Kids and the Give the Gift of Reading initiative, collecting new children’s books, colouring packs and activity sets for South Australian children in need.

You can help make Christmas unforgettable for a young person by buying a new children’s book, colouring packs or activity sets and donating it at any of our Libraries or the Norwood Town Hall.

Donations will be accepted until Wednesday 23 December.

Together, we can help every child feel the magic of Christmas.
