20 years of Christmas creativity – help us create a little Christmas magic!

Christmas might feel a little way off, but here at the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters, we’re already thinking about tinsel, cards, Christmas cheer… and finding the next generation of festive artists!

This year marks a very special milestone, with the Mayor’s Christmas Card Competition celebrating 20 years since it was first introduced in 2006.

For two decades, local children have been putting pencil, paintbrush and pixels to paper to show us what Christmas means to them0020 — and we’re ready to see what this year’s budding artists can dream up.

We’re inviting Kindergarten to Year 6 students to create an original Christmas artwork.

It could be a classic Christmas scene, a distinctly Aussie celebration, a magical festive adventure or something completely unexpected.

Entries will be judged by Mayor Robert Bria, with first, second and third place prizes awarded for each year level, plus one overall winner.

And there’s more to it than winning a prize.

The winning artwork from each year level will be printed on the official Christmas cards sent by the Mayor, Chief Executive Officer and General Managers to Councils, government agencies, schools, community groups and key partners across South Australia and beyond.

The overall winner’s artwork will also take pride of place on the cover of the December edition of Look East.

Since the competition began in 2006, thousands of local children have taken part, creating colourful snapshots of what Christmas looks like through their eyes.

Twenty years on, we’re looking forward to adding another chapter to this much-loved local tradition.

“It’s wonderful to see this competition continue to inspire local children after 20 years.

“Every year, I’m amazed by the creativity, imagination and wonderful ideas our young artists bring to their Christmas designs,” Mayor Bria says.

“What makes this competition particularly special is seeing Christmas through the eyes of our youngest community members.

“Their artwork captures the joy, colour and sense of togetherness that makes this time of year so special.”

So, while we know Christmas is probably the last thing on your mind right now, we’re getting a head start on the festive season — and we’d love your little artists to join us!

Entries must be submitted to the Norwood Town Hall using the official entry form by 5.00pm, Monday 21 September.
