Enjoy a paw-fect day on The Parade with Instagram sensation Mr. Chuck

20/10/2022

With a penchant for button-up shirts, knitted sweaters and bowties, Mr Chuck may be Adelaide’s most fashionable dachshund. His timeless style has seen the petfluencer attract more than 10,000 Instagram followers, and means The Parade is the ideal spot to stretch his legs whenever he goes for a walk with owners Olga Anikeeva and Johnny von Einem.

“The Parade has a great mix of businesses so I can get my errands done, enjoy a little shopping and sit down at a cafe on the same trip,” says Olga. “And Mr Chuck loves it because he can meet plenty of other dogs while he enjoys his walk.” Here are some of his favourite places to stop in on The Parade.

Argo on the Parade

The outdoor seating is perfect for Mr Chuck, who “loves a puppacino and loves socialising with the other dogs there.” In fact, several of his Instagram friends are regulars, and the puppacino with lactose-free milk and carob powder is part of a dog menu that also includes housemade pooch biscuits and a coconut ginger rice bowl with egg, carrot and peas. Plus, Argo’s range of alternative milks means Olga can enjoy an oat milk latte at the same time.

Yo-Chi

Every year, Yo-Chi hosts a massive Dog Days Weekend promotion with free frozen yoghurt for owners of a different breed every day. “They have little biscuits from The Woofery Dog Bakery for all the dogs, and they take Polaroids of them to put on the wall,” says Olga. “It’s very cute!” And the selection of fresh fruit prepared every morning means Olga can add scoops of fresh berries to transform her bowl of frozen yoghurt into a colourful (and tasty) work of art.

The Colonist

Before Olga and Johnny got married, she brought Mr Chuck to The Colonist to give Johnny his blessing, so it’s a place with a lot of personal history. “There’s plenty of shade and some of the seats are on a quiet side street, so it’s a good place to relax after a walk,” explains Olga. “Mr Chuck really likes it there because he can sit on the chair with us while I enjoy a local wine and Johnny tucks into a schnitzel.” And it tastes even better knowing that $1 from every chicken parmy sold on Wednesdays is donated to Paws & Claws Adoptions, a charity that helps to find loving homes for abandoned cats and dogs.

Hutchinson Park - 2 Bond Street

“Sometimes Mr Chuck thinks he’s a human – that’s why he likes to sit on the chairs with us at the pub,” says Olga with a laugh. So it’s no surprise that he prefers open green spaces to enclosed dog parks, which makes Hutchinson Park the perfect spot to finish a big day. Tucked discreetly off of Sydenham Road, it’s a relaxing spot where he can make some four-legged friends and chase a ball while enjoying the off-leash space from 5pm-10am every day.
