Live Football, Epic Happy Hours and an Iconic Aussie Band: Your Guide to Everything Happening on The Parade

02/04/2024

Mad March may be well and truly in the rearview mirror, but the festival season is still alive and well with Gather Round on the horizon. Thousands of interstate visitors will descend on Adelaide this weekend for a frenzy of football that includes two massive games at Norwood Oval. 2023 grand finalists the Brisbane Lions play the North Melbourne Kangaroos at 4:40 pm on Friday April 5, while the Richmond Tigers take on the St Kilda Saints at 2:50 pm on Sunday April 7.

How To Watch The Games

The unique opportunity to watch an AFL match at a suburban oval means that both games are well and truly sold out, but even if you didn’t manage to snag a ticket you can cheer every mark, tackle and goal for free from one of the spacious powered recliners at Hoyts Norwood. Footy fans living with autism and other sensory needs can enjoy a front row seat at one of the special sensory sessions featuring dimmed house lights and lower volume, and Hoyts is offering a 36-ounce popcorn and drink deal for just $10.

Where To Eat And Drink

Whether your team walks away with four premiership points or not, everyone can feel like a winner thanks to a host of specials at bars and restaurants along The Parade. Present your gameday ticket at Café Saba to take 15% off the bill, or enjoy $6.50 beers all weekend at Miss Pho Vietnamese Eatery. If you’ve got a supersized hunger (and thirst), head to The Bath Hotel for $18 pizzas washed down with $30 1.7L Mega Jugs of Hahn Super Dry.

Venture a little further up The Parade and you can enjoy an extended happy hour with $10 imperial pints and $10 glasses of Champagne from 4-6 pm all weekend at The Rising Sun Inn. Just around the corner, The Kensi Hotel is offering $6.50 pints from 4-6 on Friday and 11-1 on Sunday, as well as a $15 breakfast burger and pint deal on Sunday and specials on wines and cocktails throughout the weekend.

Norwood Food & Wine Festival Is Back

After a 12-year hiatus, the Norwood Food & Wine Festival will make a triumphant return on Sunday April 7. Adelaide’s favourite foodie strip will come alive from 11 am – 8 pm, with legendary local restaurants cooking up a feast alongside the finest chefs and beverage providers from around the state.

Taste your way around South Australia as you sip craft beers from Bright Star and Shapeshifter breweries, savour wines from Beresford Estate and Woodsoak Wines and sample the latest spirits from Twenty Third Street and Happenstance Distilleries. Then pick up some kitchen tips at live cooking demonstrations featuring some of South Australia’s most acclaimed chefs including Karena Armstrong from The Salopian Inn, Masterchef favourite Callum Hann and arkhé founder Jake Kellie.

And whether you sit down at a legendary local restaurant or enjoy a meal from one of the visiting chefs, make sure to grab a spot near the music stage in time for the headline set from Aria Award-winning band The Temper Trap, who are the only band ever to play at more than one AFL grand final.
