Crookies, Cronuts and Tira Misu Lobster Tails: Jenny’s Bakery is Bringing a Taste of the Sweet Life to Norwood Mall

22/04/2024

Joe Titaro has spent a decade working at the original Jenny’s Bakery location in Eastwood, but for almost that entire time the Bakery Manager has dreamed of opening a store closer to home. “It’s a family business and we live in the Norwood area so I’ve always had my eyes open but never found the right spot,” he explains. “We didn’t want to open up just anywhere, and we needed a location that would suit our look and feel.”

Thankfully, the stars aligned when the former Uncle Albert’s café in Norwood Mall became available last year. “The centre was still under construction when it came up so it was a big punt,” he recalls. “We didn’t know what it would be like when it was finished, but it’s turned out really well.”

The business’ strong social media following ensured plenty of interest when Jenny’s Bakery Norwood opened last November, and since then there’s been excellent feedback from locals saying it's just what the area needed. “There are a lot of sit down cafes nearby," adds Joe, "but if you’re short on time we’ve got focaccia sandwiches and a large range of pastries made fresh every day so it’s easy to grab a quick lunch on the go.”

Those pastries include mouthwatering limited edition treats like matcha white chocolate cookies, peanut butter chocolate custard cronuts and lobster tails filled with everything from pistachio to tira misu. And there’s always something new around the corner: Jenny’s recently introduced Adelaide foodies to the crookie, a flaky croissant filled with gooey cookie dough that’s been blowing up social media around the world.

“We’re known for having a crazy amount of stuff,” Joe laughs as he lists off some of the more popular items. “And we’re always rotating our flavours to keep things fresh. So every week to two weeks we change the flavours of all our products.”

The same goes for the savoury options, which are created each day by a team of chefs in the original Eastwood location. Working with fresh seasonal produce, they create delicious, filling lunch options like the roast peach, prosciutto and bocconcini focaccia with balsamic glaze and rocket that featured recently.

And while the aim was originally to provide a range of grab-and-go options, the bakery is proving so popular with dine in customers that Joe is already looking to expand. “Our Eastwood location is a lot bigger but we’ve only got around 30 seats in Norwood and I’d love another shop double that size,” he says. “So we’re working with the developers on plans for outdoor seating at the moment to really maximise the space.”
