You have got to be in it to win it!

06/08/2024

That is the message from the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters’ Shop to Win competition winner, Gail Casey.

In June 2024, Ms Casey won a Ford Puma St-Line valued at $35,250.

Ms Casey, of Norwood, who entered the competition six times, described her reaction as “gobsmacked” when she received a phone call from the Council to say she was the lucky winner of the first prize.

In total, she has entered about 200 different competitions throughout her lifetime!

“I have won a few things, from concert tickets to flights to the cricket. I mainly enter free ones and it takes no time at all.”

“But I was absolutely gobsmacked when I received the call from the Council. I thought maybe I had won $500 or something….”

Ms Casey – who calls her car DAX – which is the three consecutive letters of the number plate says it already “fits right into the family” as her grand-daughter, Dakoda, is nicknamed Dakkas.

“It is a beautiful car with all the bells and whistles, and it will do me for a long time. The seats are high and it will be easy for me use as I get older.”

The retiree, who is a mother of four and grandmother of 12, says the car is “meant to be” as it is a perfect fit in her small carport.

The competition, which was an initiative of Norwood Parade Precinct Committee in order to generate spending in the local economy, was held from the 6 May to 16 June 2024.

Throughout the duration of the six week competition, 4,509 entries were received at an average of 107 entries per day. The competition resulted in an expenditure of more than $560,000 at 213 businesses within The Parade Precinct.

To enter the competition, a minimum of $25 was required to be spent at any business located within the Parade Precinct.

Ms Casey’s winning entry was at Chemist Warehouse on The Parade.

The Council would like to thank Jarvis Ford at Trinity Gardens for its involvement in the competition.
