Mayor's Christmas Message

Where has the year gone? It seems like only yesterday the new Council was elected but here we are already halfway through the four-year term.

This time last year, many major capital projects were still in progress, but now, they are either completed or well underway. New projects, like the upgrade of George Street in Norwood—the first stage of The Parade Masterplan—will begin soon. Meanwhile, work continues on the redevelopment of the Payneham Memorial Swimming Centre.

The Council has also focused on key strategies, including the review of CityPlan 2030 and the 2024–2034 Long-term Financial Plan, which will lay the foundation for the next decade.

As the weather warms up, the Council’s Summer events program is a great chance to connect with neighbours and enjoy our City. I encourage you to join us for events like the Santos Tour Down Under, Concerts in the Park and the St Peters Fair.

I want to thank my fellow Elected Members for their leadership and focus during this challenging time for Local Government. Special thanks also to the dedicated Council staff, led by CEO Mario Barone PSM, who work closely with us to deliver community priorities. I also acknowledge the incredible contributions of the Council’s 220 volunteers, whose time and skills make our City more inclusive and connected.

Finally, a big thank you to the residents and business owners of our City. Your feedback, participation in consultations and attendance at events are vital to a healthy local community.

This year has been one of progress and achievement, giving our City confidence and momentum as we move into 2025 and beyond. The Council looks forward to continuing its work with the community to ensure ongoing success.

From my family to yours, best wishes for a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
