A positive step towards improved road safety in our City

16/04/2025
The City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters is committed to improving road safety, promoting sustainable transport and improving community well-being
We also recognise that traffic speed directly impacts the liveability and safety of our streets.
In an effort to address this, the Council began investigations into lowering the speed limit on residential streets in 2022 and conducted community consultation.
Lowering the speed limit from 50 km/h to 40 km/h will make our streets safer for pedestrians and cyclists while keeping travel times for motorists largely unchanged.
Importantly, this change will reduce the likelihood of accidents and lessen their severity, contributing to a more secure environment for all road users.
The reduced speed limit has now been approved by both the State Government and the Council and implementation of reduced speed limits is progressing.
From late April 2025, the following Suburbs will be reduced from 50 km/h to 40 km/h:
- Hackney
- College Park
- St Peters
- Joslin
- Royston Park
- Marden
- St Morris
- Glynde
- Firle
- Payneham
- Payneham South
- Trinity Gardens
What to expect
- All properties within the project area will receive a Public Notice Postcard in their mailbox.
- All property owners who do not reside at their properties will receive a letter notifying them of changes.
- New speed limit signs will be installed.
- Temporary signs will be displayed for two months to alert drivers to the changes.
- SAPOL will be notified of the updated limits.
- Information will be shared on the Council’s social media channels.
This initiative is a step toward creating safer, more vibrant communities where walking, cycling and driving coexist in harmony.
By making our streets safer, we’re building a better, more connected future for everyone.
Stay informed, stay safe, and let’s work together for a safer community!
