Rivals Long Lunch serves up a plate of success

23/04/2025
The 2025 AFL Gather Round may be over, but we are still revelling in the buzzing success of the blockbuster weekend in Norwood.
A feature of the weekend’s festivities was the Rivals Long Long, a lavish affair with 160 guests gathered under a marquee along leafy Osmond Terrace on Saturday 12 April.
Building on the momentum of its 2024 debut, this year’s Long Lunch delivered a more indulgent experience—uniting food lovers, local producers and AFL fans in a uniquely South Australian celebration.
The picturesque tree-lined boulevard was drenched in autumn sun and transformed into a vibrant dining precinct, showcasing the very best of Glynde and Stepney’s produce and matched perfectly with beverages from local producers.
Culinary excellence was at the heart of the event, with Head Chef Eddie Noble of seaside favourite HNLY, curating a standout menu that took guests on a culinary journey through the region’s flavours.
Lending her charm and local pride to the occasion was beloved media personality and Eddie’s mum, Jane Reilly OAM, who hosted the afternoon with warmth and flair.
“This event is a great celebration of our community the local hospitality scene,” says Mayor Robert Bria.
“It’s a unique opportunity to support local businesses while enjoying some of the best food and wine South Australia has to offer—just a drop, punt and throw from Norwood Oval.”
Local produce from Rio Vista, Prove, Gelato Bello, Bruce’s Meat, Glynburn Gourmet, Quinzi’s and Seafood on The Parade, and beverages from Reform Distilling, The Suburban Brew, Signature Wines and CW Wines were in the spotlight.
The Rivals Long Lunch also served as the perfect prelude to the highly anticipated and sold out Brisbane vs Bulldogs clash at Norwood Oval later that afternoon, capping off a day filled with flavour, festivity and footy.
With glowing feedback and a growing guest list, the Rivals Long Lunch has cemented itself as a highlight on the AFL Gather Round calendar—keep it on your radar for 2026.
