From humble beginnings to Hall of Fame: 2025 Eastside Business Awards announced

Wednesday 30 April marked a special celebration for the City of Norwood Payneham and St Peters business community with the announcement of the 2025 Eastside Business Awards winners.

More than 330 local businesses were nominated for an award by loyal clients and customers with the list of finalists whittled down to 19, making it a highly competitive field and a tough decision for judges.

Securing the highly coveted Hall of Fame Award was McConnell’s Furnishings and Upholstery — a highly regarded and eclectic specialist located within the Magill Road home decorator and lifestyle precinct.

Almost lost for words at the award win, John Murray was grateful for the recognition and “pat on the back” from his community.

From humble beginnings in a shed on Edward Street, Norwood, McConnell’s has firmly secured its roots in the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peter’s and grown into a treasure of Magill Road.

For John, it’s more than just restoring furniture, it’s about the value it adds to the lives of his customers.

“By refurbishing cherished pieces of furniture, we give people back something that makes their lives feel a little bit more whole and a little bit more memorable.”

Mayor Robert Bria presented winners with their awards at the Awards Dinner, held at Norwood Concert Hall.

“Our local economic success story pinpoints the City of NPSP as the best place in Australia to do business and this is testament to the hard work, innovation and resilience of our local business community,” says Mayor Bria.

“Each year I am increasingly impressed by the businesses nominated, particularly new businesses and those who are consistently well supported by their clients and customers.

“Those businesses nominated year after year have clearly made a lasting impression on clients and customers, and developed a strong sense of loyalty based on the quality of their offering and exceptional customer service.”

The Eastside Business Awards is presented by the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters together with Solstice Media.
