Last week, the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters proudly celebrated National Volunteer Week—an opportunity to shine a light on the extraordinary contribution of our 220 volunteers who give their time, energy and compassion to make our City a better place to live, work and visit.
Throughout the week, we hosted a series of events to express our deep appreciation, including a delightful high tea at The Rising Sun Inn, a fun and flavourful gin tasting with Reform Distilling and a relaxed community barbecue at Linde Reserve.
It was during this barbecue that Mayor Robert Bria personally thanked our volunteers, recognising the vital role they play in strengthening our community and ensuring no one is left behind.
“Volunteering is not just an offer to lend a hand, but also an offer to join hands,” says Mayor Bria.
“It is recognition that while some outcomes can be achieved alone, others are only realised when people of good will offer their time, skills and compassion to something bigger than themself.”
Our volunteers make valued contributions across a variety of roles, each one essential and each one performed with generosity, humility and kindness.
“Our volunteers continuously demonstrate the City’s strong sense of community spirit.
“Whether it’s staying connected with socially isolated neighbours or supporting local traders and sporting clubs, they remind us that we all have a role to play in caring for others.”
The Council’s volunteers have already contributed more than 2,500 hours this calendar year. Our Justices of the Peace have certified more than 2,000 documents and graffiti has been removed from public and private property in excess of 1,000 times.
The data speaks volumes.
“The role of volunteers has been a constant source of strength and inspiration for our community and an invaluable social asset in the process of societies across the globe.”
To every volunteer in our City—and to all volunteers near and far—we offer our sincere thanks.
“Your contribution is not only valued, but also vital. You help build a community where everyone feels connected, supported and seen.
And if you’ve ever wondered whether you could make a difference, the answer is yes.
Join us and become a volunteer. Because while some things can be done alone, the best things happen when we work together.
