Leverage planned footpath reconstructions to upgrade your verge

28/07/2025
Each year, the Council reconstructs footpaths throughout the City that are due for renewal.
When footpaths are reconstructed, adjacent property owners can ‘opt-in’ for the Council to excavate the compacted dolomite / quartzite in the verge and replace it with loam on the condition that the property owner will landscape the verge.
The footpaths identified to be reconstructed during the 2025–2026 financial year include:

How to ‘opt in’
Property owners will be notified via letter prior to the footpath reconstruction works being undertaken on their street.
The notification letter will advise of how and when to apply to have loam installed in the verge when the footpath works are undertaken.
A property owner wishing to ‘opt-in’ for the installation of loam in the verge, must complete and submit the online Authorisation to Landscape a Verge Application Form found on the Council’s website.
When completing the form, check the box for the Footpath Reconstruction Program option.
Please note:
- If an Authorisation to Landscape a Verge Application Form is not submitted by the date outlined in the notification letter or an Authorisation is not granted, then quartzite will be maintained or installed in the verge.
- The Council will not return after footpath reconstruction is completed for the relevant street to undertake replacement of the verge with loam.
- The Council will not supply or assist with any landscaping of the verge (including, but not limited to establishing any plants, lawn or irrigation).
