This retailer is using technology to combine friendly service with the convenience of online shopping

When the team at Gazman Norwood refurbished the store earlier this year, they decided to remove all the fittings and start afresh.

The result is a completely reimagined store that somehow has more display space on the shop floor and a larger storage room out back.

Just as importantly, says Store Manager Suzy Romeo, “It's absolutely beautiful. They spared no expense and now it's one of our best stores in the country.”

“We moved our side entrance and made the hallway between Gazman and Country Road glass, so there's a lot more light in the store now.”

Real plants, a selection of design books on display and an eclectic range of accessories complete the look that Suzy describes as “understated with a bit of a Hamptons feel.”

The extra space on the shop floor allows Suzy to display more merchandise, especially bulky items like the sports coats and winter coats that are currently on special.

And with new season stock slated to arrive any minute, the floor will soon be filled with the colourful polos, vibrant checks and bright stripes that Gazman is known for.

Suzy also singles out Gazman's award-winning jeans as a particularly noteworthy bargain. “We use a knit denim, which is really soft – it almost feels like a tracksuit,” she explains.

“And they're cut very well for men's bodies, which means you could put just about any guy in our jeans and they will fit well.”

If you stop to check out the display in the front window, you'll be able to spot another recent addition to the mannequins.

“We also carry shoes now,” says Suzy. “We have sneakers and a Chelsea boot that looks almost like an R.M. Williams boot,” though at $179.95 it's close to a quarter of the cost.

The store offers one hour of free parking with validation, making it easy to pop in even during peak times, but the most convenient offering is Gazman's revolutionary new Floor to Door sales system.

“If we don't have a particular colour or style in stock here, we can find out what size the customer is and order it for them,” explains Suzy.

“They can pay in store with cash or card, just like a normal sale, and we'll post it to them within three to five days.

It's a great system for people who are uncomfortable providing their details online or who prefer to try clothes on in person, and our customers love it.
