Closing the digital divide this October

26/09/2025

We are proud to be part of Get Online Week 2025 (20–26 October), a nationwide initiative that helps Australians gain the skills and confidence they need to thrive in our digital world.

Get Online Week is Good Things national campaign to close the digital divide. It supports people to feel safer and more confident online, so no one is left behind.

That’s why we are delighted to join hundreds of other organisations in delivering free, community-led digital skills events during Get Online Week.

Workshops being provided:

  • iCloud Basics
  • Craft, Chat and Apps morning tea
  • Instagram for Beginners
  • Facebook and Instagram for Small Businesses.

New research from Good Things Australia reveals that many Australians are facing barriers to getting online, with cost pressures, technology anxiety, lack of support and online safety concerns leaving more than half (59%) feeling uncomfortable keeping up with technological change.

The findings, published in Australian Attitudes to Getting Online 2024, also highlight growing concerns about the digital divide:

  • Online safety – one in five (19%) Australians struggle to stay safe online and over half (52%) believe scams are becoming harder to detect
  • Technology concerns – a third (33%) are worried about the long-term impacts of Artificial Intelligence on daily life
  • Financial barriers – nearly half (49%) say cost-of-living pressures affect their ability to get online, 14% struggle to pay internet or phone bills, and one in five (18%) must choose between internet access and essentials like food or housing.

We believe access to the internet is no longer a luxury – it is essential for staying connected, accessing services and participating fully in modern life.

All workshops are free, but registration is essential.
