A new spritz bar is bringing Europe to Magill Road

28/10/2025

Ever since Austrian soldiers first asked for a splash of soda in their wine, the spritz has been a drink on the rise.

Combining the best elements of sparkling wine and cocktails, it's the go-to option when the weather starts to warm up.

“Aperol spritz is like Eurosummer in a glass,” says Duxton Pubs marketing manager Rachel Prior.

And this summer, the Alma Tavern is saving patrons the cost of an airline ticket with a new Spritz Bar set to launch at the end of October.

“We've partnered with Campari to give the beer garden a full refresh,” explains Rachel.

“We had great local artists come in to do the walls, and we've redesigned the whole place with a European vibe down to the terracotta tiles on the bar area and custom taps.”

Other Mediterranean-inspired touches include comfortable booths with duck egg blue cushions, walls splashed with Aperol's trademark orange and “tiled tables that remind you of a pool in a really good way.”

“We'll have Aperol and limoncello spritzes on tap, along with Peroni beer and cocktails like mojitos and Americanos,” says Rachel.

“The taps mean that every spritz is blended perfectly, and you won't have the wait times for cocktails that you can often get in a venue of this size.”

Every spritz comes with a signature garnish, and the chefs have created a menu of antipasti platters and wood-fired pizzas with toppings like asparagus and artichoke.

And with a capacity of 150 and a retractable roof, the Spritz Bar will be hosting an endless summer no matter the forecast.

“We want this to be a community space that people use for birthday celebrations and catch-ups, and the fact that it's dog-friendly is great,” says Rachel.

“We'll be hosting regular events over the summer, so if you can't plan a Eurotrip this year, let Europe come to you.”

If you're looking to get a head start on your New Year's Resolutions, you can also find a dreamy non-alcoholic spritz just down the road at Mischief Brew HQ.

Their creative small-batch sodas are packed with flavour, and every can is made to savour.

The pick of the bunch is the showstopping Aperitivo Spritz that starts with the perfect blend of bitter and sweet, adds a citrus kick and throws in botanicals like cinchona, sage and pepperberry to create a refreshing adult beverage.

Grab a four-pack to take home, and you'll be able to keep the good vibes rolling all summer long.

The Alma's Spritz Bar will launch on Thursday 30 October.
