Watch: Christmas Message from Mayor Bria

16/12/2025

It’s been another busy and productive year for our City. As always, we’ve stayed focused on getting the job done for our community — fixing roads and footpaths, collecting rubbish and maintaining our beautiful parks and reserves.

But our work goes far beyond the basics.

Watch Mayor Bria's Christmas Message for 2025 below:

This year, we brought people together through our vibrant community events. Our libraries welcomed thousands of visitors, encouraging creativity and lifelong learning. We supported young people through programs that inspire growth and ambition. And we provided care and support to older and isolated citizens, so they can remain surrounded by and connected to their community. And so much more.

We’re committed to building a great City — one that is safe, welcoming and future-focused. And to do that, we’re also investing in important community infrastructure.

Construction of the Payneham Memorial Swimming Centre is entering the final stages, and by next summer, you’ll be cooling off at our new, state-of-the-art aquatic facility.

The Trinity Valley Stormwater Drainage Upgrade has also made significant progress, further protecting our community from the impacts of flooding. This current stage also coincides with an upgrade of St Morris Reserve, which will be completed this year and officially opened in February twenty-twenty-six.

Here on George Street, we’ve reached the halfway mark of the George Street Upgrade, which will deliver a safer, greener and more welcoming gateway to The Parade. Construction is now paused to make sure local businesses are easily accessible for all your Christmas shopping and celebrations.

Our business community has worked hard this year—and the results speak for themselves. Our local economy is thriving and the City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters is arguably the best place in the nation to do business. So, this Christmas, shop local and support the businesses that make our community special.

As we move into the festive season, I encourage you to connect — with family, with neighbours, and even with someone who may be spending Christmas alone. A small gesture can make a big difference.

On behalf of the Elected Members and staff, we wish you a joyful Christmas and a safe and healthy New Year.

We’re taking a short Festive break from 3pm on 24 December and reopening 8:30am on Monday 5 January. During this time you can still find many of our services available online.
