Council Elections rescheduled to 2027

The South Australian Government has deferred the 2026 Local Government Periodic Elections, with the next council elections now scheduled for 2027.

The Electoral Commission of South Australia has released the updated election timetable, giving prospective candidates and voters time to prepare for the revised schedule.

Key dates include:

• Rolls close: Monday, 4 January 2027
• Nominations open: Tuesday, 26 January 2027
• Nominations close: Tuesday, 9 February 2027
• Close of voting (Polling Day): 5:00 pm, Wednesday, 7 April 2027
• Scrutiny and count: 9:00 am, Saturday, 10 April 2027
